Chelsea hope to end Frank Lampard's appointment as their new coach next week, sources told ESPN FC.
Lampard was identified by club owner Roman Abramovich as the preferred choice to replace Maurizio Sarri, revealed as Juventus' new coach on Thursday.

Chelsea are prepared to pay off the £ 4 million needed to free Lampard from his contract with Derby but the club's desire to secure a replacement before sanctioning their exit has slowed the pace.
Lampard is expected to sign a three-year deal and be joined by former Chelsea coach Jody Morris and former fitness trainer Chris Jones.
Derby wanted to keep Lampard after a positive first season in which he led a young and vibrant team to the championship playoff final and would have offered him an extension of the contract.
Lampard will work closely with former Chelsea team-mate Petr Cech, announced as the club's new technical and performance consultant on Friday.
Cech will provide advice on all football and performance issues, work to improve the course of the gym to the main team and travel with the home team away from home.
Another member of Chelsea's first Premier League team, Claude Makelele, has also been linked to a loan-lending role while Academy coach Joe Edwards will be promoted.
