Formal Minister Isaac Adewole's son was abducted at gunpoint

Some unknown gunmen on Tuesday night abducted Dayo Adewole, who is the son of the former Health Minister, Prof. Isaac Adewole.

The military, police, security agents and local hunters were already on the trail of the kidnappers at the time of publication.

The former minister was forced to stop his trip abroad.

The kidnappers have not yet contacted the family about the motive and condition of the victim.
According to one source, Dayo Adewole was assaulted under gunpoint at his farm in Iroko, near Fiditi, in the local government area of   Afijio, Oyo State, around 6pm.

Although there were some employees with Dayo, the hijackers were to him as a primary target.

It was gathered that the kidnappers then took Dayo to an unknown destination.

A source revealed: "The villagers were notified by the team that survived the ordeal. Local hunters were mobilized by the Oniroko from Iroko.

"It was said that the hunters located the car of the hijackers along the road to the village of Iware, near Iroko.

"But they are still to locate Dayo's whereabouts. It was suspected that the hijackers might have switched vehicles after a persistent announcement on the  radio after Oniroko had raised the alarm in the air.

The results confirmed that the military, police and security agencies joined forces with the villagers to search for Dayo.

A senior official at the Federal Ministry of Health said: "We are in a bad mood with the kidnapping. Dayo was trained in agriculture and opted for agriculture.

"He runs his farm peacefully in Iroko until he is kidnapped by some gunmen on Tuesday."

Responding to a question, the official said: "The former minister went abroad last Thursday for recess, but is coming back. He interrupted his journey.

"The military, the police and other security agencies are at the top of the situation."

Juventus rekindle interest in €140 million Paul Pogba but expect stiff competition from Real Madrid

The Serie A champions are hoping to bring the French back to Turin, although Zinedine Zidane's side are also interested in midfield.

Juventus is increasing its efforts to hire Paul Pogba, but accepts that it will face strong competition from Real Madrid for Manchester United midfielder.

According to sources close to the Serie A champion, club director Fabio Paratici met with United officials to discuss a possible deal for the French champions while he was in the UK finalizing a move by Maurizio Sarri.

And Juve is now planning an official offer for the 26-year-old, who left them to return to United in 2016, expecting to be in the range of  €130m to €140m  (£116m / $145m to £125m / US $157 million).

He is considered one of Zinedine Zidane's top goalscorers and the League team would be very interested in taking him to the Bernabeu.

The ABC newspaper goes so far as to say that Real is willing to make a 125 million euro bid for Pogba and offer him a salary that will allow him to pay the equivalent of Eden Hazard, just short of the captain of the team, Sergio Ramos.

That said, Juve, who has named former Chelsea manager Sarri as his new coach on Sunday, is still ready to face Real in the race to hire the midfielder, with  the agreement to take Cristiano Ronaldo to Turin, proving that nothing is impossible.

Meanwhile, Manchester United remains determined to keep Pogba and does not want to sell him in a move that would hurt coach Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who has always  stated that he wants to build his team around the Frenchman.

This puts the Red Devils in a stronger position than negotiating a possible sale, demanding as much money as possible if the negotiations go ahead, and Juve's  and Madrid's interest are accompanied by concrete offers.

Juve continued to dominate in the national territory, winning the eighth consecutive championship under the command of former chief Massimiliano Allegri, although the progress of the Champions League has been yet another fight.

There was hope that Ronaldo's hiring would help close his 23-year wait to win Europe's highest award despite having recovered from Ajax in the quarter-finals of  the 2018-19 competition.

A move by Pogba would further her ambition to finally conquer Europe, with Aaron Ramsey joining a free transfer from Arsenal and Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Adrien Rabiot, also linked.

Mauro Icardi is another one that interests the holders of Serie A, although Juve is not willing to allow Paulo Dybala to move to Inter as part of any agreement for the Argentine striker.

Right-back João Cancelo is ready to leave, with Manchester City about to finalize the likely €50m (plus £45m / $56m) bid, as well as bonuses for the Portuguese.

Copa America: Argentna 0-2 Colombia as R. Martinez and D Zapata scored to seal victory

7 'Ospina does enough! Nervy moments for Colombia as Ospina sprints out of his line and out of the penalty area as Messi throws a delicious ball over Aguero. The goalkeeper comes first, but he almost misjudges! He only has the smallest of touches, however, throwing away Aguero as chance is not equivalent to anything.

16 'DEFLECTED LARGELY! A great chance for Martinez just minutes after entering when Falcao
hits the ball from the right before putting Martinez out but the substitute can not get past the first time in the crowd. swerves behind a corner!

23 'Important save! Martinez makes a good diagonal run as he was chosen on the edge of the penalty area, chest in front of the ball, without breaking the stride, but Otamendi reads very well as he slides from behind to poke the ball away from danger.

29 'Argentina again escaped scare as a result of a last-gasp defense as Colombia were attacking in numbers at halftime before Rodriguez was able to hit the ball  back through a corner. Argentina fans are getting restless.

38 'Closer! Falcao climbs higher to find a free kick from James, but he just can not get the right contact when he misses the target. Colombia is really pushing for that first goal here, with Argentina unable to find its way out of the defense.

47 'INLE
TS FAR AWAY! Well, it's not exactly the most incisive bout, but it's a fantastic blow from Paredes at the end as he strikes a great effort near the post near 30 yards!

59 'TERRIFIC SAVINGS! A clever passage of the game results in a corner of Argentina, and the subsequent delivery comes all the way though to Paredes on the edge of the area, who crushes a poisonous volleyball for the first time in the goal, but Ospina reacts superbly to the parry!

66 'LONG INCHES! Argentina puts the hammer to nail here while they try to open the way for the first goal. A little pinball follows in the penalty area after a corner, and Ospina descends brilliantly to save Aguero's head off the line, before Messi leads the  rebound wide!

71 'A BANGKOK AND COLOMBIA LEAD! It's 1-0 courtesy of a goal out of Martinez's drawer! Much like the goal that Everton scored for Brazil last night, Martinez crosses the left flank before cutting to the right and making a sensational final at the far post!

79 'Suarez is brought in to replace Aguero for the final 10 minutes, not Dybala or Martinez. It's a little intriguing to see the 31-year-old, without an international goal for his name, to be what's called here to save Argentina.

86 'CERTAINLY DOES IT! It's 2 to 0 in Colombia and they're ready to secure a famous victory in Salvador! They are the other two substitutes that connect this  time, when the cross of Lerma is played by Zapata of five yards!

89 'EXCELLENT BEAT! Well, Paredes, for example, brought his shooting boots tonight, but there's no way to go beyond Ospina! The midfielder releases a free kick of more than 30 yards that hits the target in a hurry, but Ospina is quick to cross and score.

90 '+ 1' REPAIR IN OSPINA! Messi's free can find just a head of Colombia, but the ball is nodded directly into Pezzella's path, which grabs the chance when it  sends the ball directly into the keeper!

Bob Higgins has been jailed for 24 Years for abusing young footballers

Former Southampton FC coach Bob Higgins was arrested after being convicted of sexually abusing 24 students over a 25-year period.

Higgins was arrested for 24 years and three months. He did not show emotion when the sentence was delivered.

Judge Peter Crabtree said that Higgins was a "cunning and manipulative" predator who abused his trusted position as a respected trainer.

Crabtree said he had the key to boys' dream of becoming professional footballers. They idolized Higgins and would do anything to please him. He
highlighted how Higgins had isolated many boys from their homes and families, making it easier to abuse them.

The judge said the victims had a real and lasting impact. Some suffered "serious psychological damage."

He told Higgins: "Their victims have shown great bravery and dignity," adding, "Most felt ashamed and ashamed. Some have slipped into periods of
alcoholic depression and mental illness. " The judge said Higgins had shown "no spurt of remorse" and said he would be barred from working with
 children any more.

Many of his victims, now middle-aged men, sat in the public gallery at Winchester's Crown Court while Higgins, who also trained young players at
 Peterborough United, was sentenced.

The judge praised the dignity with which the victims behaved in describing the decades of trauma they suffered after being treated and abused by
 Higgins.

Victim after victim testified that they suffered decades of mental health problems because of Higgins' crimes and expressed anger, shame and guilt
 over what happened to them.

Some told the court that they tried to kill themselves or turned to drinking and using drugs to try to eliminate abuse. Many have said that they have
struggled over the years with flashbacks, panic attacks, depression, anxiety, lack of confidence and problems with personal relationships. Many went on
to have good careers in football, but some said they missed the chance to realize their potential because of Higgins.

"The FA did not stop you": the long road to justice for the abuse victims of Bob Higgins

During the sentencing hearing, a victim criticized FA and Southampton FC for their treatment of Higgins, 66. He put the issues to court: "Where were
Southampton? Where were the FAs? Where were his due diligence and safeguard policies? They had a duty of care, a responsibility.

Three players have waived their right to life anonymity. Reading his statement of impact victim in court, former Peterborough youth team star Dion Raitt
said that Higgins was ill and had "brainwashed" him. "I was trapped in your world 24/7 with no chance to escape," he told Higgins.

"I thought you were a god," he said. "You are a pure evil, a false prophet, a wolf in sheepskin. You took my dream away and replaced it with a living nightmare.

Former Southampton FC player Anthony Connolly told the court that he met Higgins when he was 12 and said the coach had prepared his parents as well as him. "You
took off my childhood," he said.

Connolly said that the abuse created an "emptiness within me" full of "fear, anxiety and torment". He said he turned to drink to try to fend off fear and suffered
mental health problems.

"I hope Southampton FC and England have learned from their mistakes," he said. "I hope the proper safeguard is in place." He added, "Today is the beginning of a new
 chapter in our lives."

The third man to renounce his right to anonymity, Lee Smith, described Higgins as a "monster" who ruined the dreams of his victims for his own "sickly perverted
satisfaction."

Smith, also a former Southampton player, told Higgins that he could not hurt any more. "The football community is now a much safer place," he said.

Higgins, a married man and father of Southampton, was convicted of sexually abusing junior players after two tests. Southampton FC has issued an apology to the
victims.

Peterborough United FC offered an "unreserved apology" to all victims and survivors of abuse by Higgins.

The statement, released on Wednesday, said: "As a football club, we recognize and understand that some of the players under our care have been subjected to
intolerable abuse and so the club feels very sorry."

A Nigerian Upcoming music producer threatens to sue EFCC for referring to him as a fraudster

Nasiru Ali, popularly known as "Kozzographa", threatened to sue the Financial and Economic Crimes Commission (EFCC) for mistakenly calling him a fraudster
 (Yahoo boy).

The musician, through his lawyer, Mr. Pelumi Olajengbensi, said he would drag the EFCC to court for refusing to portray negative publications about him after
a seven-day ultimatum.

"He lost a five million naira contract with United Global Resolve for Peace (UNGREP), for which he had been interviewed and hitherto offered unequivocally because
the contractors were disturbed and worried about the dubious publication of his reputation.

"He has been ostracized by his colleagues and associates as well as by senior partners who generally refer to him for past jobs, thus losing his trust and reference.

He was bombarded with a flurry of phone calls from friends and family who called his reputation to question as they expressed their disappointment and indicated his
intention to immediately cut off all connection with him.

"His relationship with the intended life partner was irreparably hampered by the negative publicity generated by the illegal imprisonment, particularly the publication
on his media platform on the same subject.

"The publication has led close clients to take their jobs and take them to other people, resulting in a high level of loss and, in some cases, varying the level of
indebtedness," revealed Ali's lawyer in the petition to EFCC.

He also said that the men who invaded his house were dressed in black, with no means of identifying them as officers of the EFCC.

The petitioner had given EFCC seven days to fulfill its conditions or face legal action.

Nigerians Seek Speedy Formation Of Cabinet

A cross section of Nigerians have called upon President Muhammadu Buhari to expedite action in kick-starting his second tenure by appointing his cabinet without further delay.

The president was sworn in for another four-year term on May 29 but has yet to name any ministers, aides and other members of his cabinet.

LEADERSHIP Weekend recalls that the president took nearly six months to announce his ministers during the start of his first tenure in 2015, which raised a few eyebrows in the polity at the time.

Yesterday,  some citizens of Katsina State demanded that President Buhari constitute his cabinet as quickly as possible as he had assured Nigerians.

Several eminent persons and many professionals, who spoke to LEADERSHIP Weekend in Katsina, insisted that the President does not have so much time as Nigerians are suffering insecurity and a lot of other issues that need to be addressed. Barr.

Usman Dalhatu Batagarawa, a former member of the Katsina State House of Assembly and a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC),

said:
“What we are expecting from the President is a change of tactics as he has promised to perform better.” In Maiduguri, a legal practitioner, Labaran Mohammed Umar said the time for the president to appoint members of his cabinet is now .

Labaran noted that Nigerians could understand the president in 2015 for delaying his appointments since he was believed to be studying the  prevailing situation at the time, but now that he has been in power for the past four years, the president has no excuse for delaying his appointments this time.

“Actually, it is important  for President Muhammadu Buhari to appoint his cabinet now since he has taken oath of office .

He may have had an excuse before because he was assessing the situation, but that is then case now,” he said. On his part, the  sole administrator of the Borno State Chamber of Commerce, Industries, Mines and Agriculture  (BOCCIMA), Alhaji Ahmed Ashemi, said that recalling what President Buhari did in 2015, one will not be surprised if he again delays in making his appointments. Ashemi noted that the country had suffered so much in the past four years due to the nature of the appointments and expressed the hope  that the president would this time around inject fresh blood with new ideas to rejuvenate governance.

Another person to speak on the issue is the former governor of the old Ondo State, Bamidele Olumilua, who expressed confidence that the president would constitute his cabinet in good time. Pa Olumilua posited that now that President Buhari knows the system better, he would not delay in appointing his ministers and others that would work with him. The elder statesman, who noted that the President had demonstrated the will to rid the country of corruption in his first term in office, urged Nigerians to exercise patience with him.

Speaking with LEADERSHIP Weekend in Ikere Ekiti, the former governor said Nigeria at this time needs people who are truly willing and prepared to serve in such leadership positions.

Also speaking, an Abuja-based legal practitioner, Cletus Nworgu, advised the president to quickly appoint his ministers to avoid creating gaps in governance like what happened in his first tenure. Nworgu noted that one of the reasons why the President Buhari’s first tenure did not record much in terms of achievements was because he appointed his ministers very late. He noted that the permanent secretaries, who were in charge of the ministries then, did not help matters, as many of them did not do the right things in their ministries.

“I will advise President Muhammadu Buhari not to waste time in appointing his ministers to man the ministries.

This is because any delay in their appointment, like what happened in the first tenure, could spell doom for the incoming administration.

” Another Abuja resident, Abdulahi Tanko said that early appointment of ministers by the president would save the administration millions of naira from some greedy permanent secretaries and other top civil servants.

Tanko noted that some civil servants are even more corrupt than politicians, adding that both the politicians and the civil servants act as checks and balances when it comes to fighting corruption in the system. “If you allow the civil servants to manage the affairs in the ministries for too long, anything could happen.

They could take the advantage of this window period to cart away many things as they understand the system even better than the politicians,” he said.
