The President of the Eighth Senate, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki, ordered the administration of the National Assembly to distribute its Reimbursement
Grant to families of three victims of the insurgency in the Northeast area being perpetrated by Boko Haram terrorists and children of senators in need
financial assistance.
In a statement signed by his Special Adviser (Media and Advertising), Yusuph Olaniyonu, Saraki stated that the Allowance should be used to support the
families of Leah Sharibu, who is being held by Boko Haram after she and other girls were abducted of Dapchi. a city in Yobe State, and the two humanitarian
workers kidnapped and later killed by insurgents: Hussaini Ahmed Khoisan and Hauwa Liman.
And to benefit from the money are children of late members of the 8 Senate, who might require financial support in encouraging their education as a Trust Fund,
to be established by the National Assembly administration for this purpose.
He stated that his decision to use the reparations package to support the insurgency's selected victims was based on the fact that his cases represented some
of the most pressing humanitarian issues debated in the plenary during the four years of the Eighth Senate and in which his colleagues and himself themselves
have made exciting and passionate speeches.
According to him, 20% of the compensation allowance should be donated to Leah Sharibu's family, while 20% should also be paid to the family of Hauwa Liman, the
social worker brutally murdered by Boko Haram after she was captured.
Another 20 percent are to be donated to the family of the second aid agent, Hussaini Ahmed Khoisan, also murdered in the same circumstance by Boko Haram.
The remaining 40% should be used by the National Assembly Management to establish a TRUST FUND that will help children of deceased members of the Eighth Senate
who are financially in need of their education.
"It is my hope that this TRUST FUND will grow with more contributions from my dear colleagues, present, past and future, who can be moved to invest more money in
this.
"The secretary of the National Assembly will promptly receive an official letter from me requiring him to act as indicated above in the disbursement of my
Allowance," Saraki added.
