Former Manchester United defender Laurent Blanc threw his hat in the ring to become Newcastle United's next manager after telling councilors he is ready to take the job.
Blanc only managed in his native France, with experience in Bordeaux, the French team and the Paris Saint-Germain.
But he is reportedly open to working overseas, and is said to be interested in taking over the reins at St. James Park, although he is heading for something approaching a crisis.
Newcastle fans have protested outside the stadium after it was confirmed on Monday that popular coach Rafa Benitez would leave the club later this month.
It is the most recent of many decisions by owner Mike Ashley, who infuriated the supporters, and now there are threats of a total boycott of the club.
It remains to be seen whether Blanc's appointment would do anything to ease the tension, but one thing that can not be questioned is the Frenchman's ability
to win trophies.
As a coach he has won four Ligue 1 titles and two French Cups, while as a player he has won medals from the winner for the World Cup, Premier League and Cup Winners Cup among others.
Garry Monk, Jose Mourinho and Mikel Arteta are also linked to Newcastle, but Under 23's new coach Neil Redfearn, who only joined the club last week, should take on the training when players respond. holiday season on July 4th.
Benitez, in turn, can be set for a spell in China with a 12 million pound contract a year offered by Dalian Yifang.
The next technician to pass the St James' Park gate will be the 10th during Mike Ashley's turbulent time, and his relationship with Benitez deteriorated gradually after the pair failed to face a series of problems.
