Sky: Chelsea to appoint Petr Cech in technical role

Chelsea must announce Petr Cech's return to the club in a technical role, according to Sky Sports News.

The 37-year-old was at Stamford Bridge on Thursday to complete his return to the club four years after moving to London rival Arsenal, confirming the story that Sky Sports News broke a month ago.

Cech announced earlier this year that he was retiring at the end of the season with his last professional match in Arsenal's 4-1 loss to Chelsea in the Europa League final in May.

The former Czech Republic player spent 11 years at Chelsea, winning 13 major trophies including four Premier League titles and the Champions League.

He will return to Stamford Bridge to replace Michael Emenalo, who stepped down as coach of Chelsea in November 2017 to join Monaco.

One of Cech's first engagements will be to advise the club on the appointment of a new manager after leaving Maurizio Sarri.

Former Cech teammate Frank Lampard has been heavily attached to the post, with reports suggesting he is about to seal his return to Chelsea.

Lampard had a successful first year in management after taking Derby to the play-off final of the Sky Bet Championship, but narrowly missed the Premier League promotion after losing to Aston Villa.
